Position Summary:
The Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Grocer’s Against Hunger program, a program that has grown to include over 110 agencies that are rescuing from 260 grocery stores. This person will maintain the day to day operations of this logistically complicated program while developing long term strategic plans. The food industry is changing. As more retailers shift to smaller stocks and cut their “waste,” Philabundance must test new recovery models that have growth potential. The Manager will be key in shifting the organizational focus to increasing the pounds of client desired quality products from direct link food rescue partnerships which will also decrease demand on our operational capacity.

The next stage of growth for the Grocers Against Hunger program requires a high level of customer service to the numerous stakeholders involved including retail leadership, grocery store personnel, member agencies and volunteers. Equally important, the Manager will be responsible for ensuring the program meets annual acquisition and distribution targets. This includes consistent data analysis including compiling monthly reports against annual goals, compliance tracking and issue resolution between stores and agencies. The Manager will be part of a small flexible team that will collaborate to develop strategic initiatives, specifically around technology and volunteers, that will advance our network’s ability to respond to changes in the food industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain positive relationships with existing store banners and agencies and recruit and train new ones
  • Expand donor recognition program through regular in person visits, phone/email communication and sharing periodic meaningful updates to encourage deeper engagement with Philabundance and our member agencies
  • Coordinate program analysis and forecasting to develop annual strategy and projects with supervisor support
  • Own, support, and deliver on a variety of special projects that may require research, producing reports and guidelines to grow our network’s capacity to handle the future of retail rescue
  • Increase community engagement by expanding the role of volunteers to support the capacity of agencies to rescue food and maintain relationships with donating stores
  • Oversee and support staff, provide feedback and foster their professional development
  • Consistently, reliably and thoroughly communicate with internal staff and external contacts
  • Maintains current and accurate donor and pick up partner agency data in the database
  • Design and implement standardized programmatic operating procedures
  • Oversee agency capacity building grants and maintain program budget
  • Efficiently complete weekly administrative tasks to ensure the program runs smoothly
  • Assist with and participate in program and department cross training to provide back-up help as needed
  • Additional duties as required

Knowledge/ Abilities:

  • Experience managing staff, volunteers and complex projects
  • Think and operate strategically. You know how to plan and prioritize and can adjust quickly when things change, because they will always change.
  • Strong customer service including effective conflict resolution skills
  • Clear concise communication across all mediums including in emails, phone calls and in-person trainings
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity and cultural differences
  • Critical thinker who approaches problem solving creatively and collaboratively
  • Geeks out on data and can translates the story behind the numbers
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and fix problems when they arise.
  • High energy level, self-motivated with a continual interest to learn

Qualifications and Experience:
Required:

  • 3-5 years in non-profit project management
  • Experience in setting program strategies and seeing them through implementation
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel tools
  • Comfortable working with databases, online data entry portals and CRM tools
  • Current driver license with access to reliable transportation
