Overview of Position:
The Development Director will oversee all development activities at RTP with a focus on increasing individual giving and growing a major gift program. The Development Director will report directly to the Executive Director, work closely with the board Fund Development Committee, and supervise the Development and Communications Manager. The Development Director will serve as a key member of the leadership team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director in the formulation and execution of overall fundraising strategy for substantially increasing individual, foundation, corporate and in-kind support.
  • Grow the major gifts program and increase RTP’s individual donor base; manage annual giving campaigns; and work closely with the Executive Director to cultivate and steward major gifts.
  • Conceptualize and lead the execution of fundraising initiatives, special events, affinity groups, and communications efforts aimed at building donor/ funder/ prospect interest and engagement in the mission of RTP.
  • In collaboration with the Development and Communications Manager:
    • Execute our two events: Run to Rebuild 5k run/2 mile walk, held since 2010 on the third Saturday in May, and Volunteer Awards Ceremony, held in September.
    • Refine and manage corporate donor stewardship to build meaningful and long-lasting corporate relationships and develop new relationships.
    • Integrate donor communications with the marketing and social media plan/develop strategies for expanding RTP’s visibility.
    • Oversee preparation of fundraising materials, website content, monthly eNewsletter, annual report and social media.
    • Oversee the gift records and the donor recognition process.
    • Supervise the Development and Communications Manager.
  • Write, edit, and proofread corporate and foundation proposals, reports, letters and other correspondence, and prepare budgets, working with program staff to elicit information as necessary.
  • Monitor and report regularly to the Executive Director and the board on the progress of annual and long-range fundraising plans and programs.
  • Train and lead staff and board to support fundraising and marketing efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of fund development experience in the nonprofit sector and knowledge of how to implement a multi-source development plan.
  • Proven track record in cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
  • Experience in recruiting, managing, motivating and engaging board members in fundraising and special events.
  • Passion for RTP’s mission. Knowledge of housing programs and/or health and human services is a plus.
  • Ability to lead multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines with the ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work.
  • Exceptional written skills; experience with corporate and foundation grant requests preferred.
  • Prior supervisory skills strongly preferred.
  • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, experience working with fundraising software/databases, and familiarity with websites and social media. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range is 60-70K and will be commensurate with experience.
  • RTP contributes 3% of salary to a retirement IRA.
